Pure Mish Up North Sailing Adventures is a long time dream come true for me. As a career high school chemistry teacher now retired, I still have a great love for sharing my enjoyment of my passions with others. Being a charter boat captain on a sailing vessel provides a great opportunity for doing just that. Sharing time with great people and helping them experience the beauty and wonder of Northern Michigan on a sailboat is a special treat for me. Captain Dan Mishler is a United States Coast Guard Licensed Captain with a 50-Ton Master Credential. Captain Dan is also a member of the Michigan Charter Boat Association.

Pure Mish, the Charter Boat

I provide the boat and the know-how for your sailing charter, you just bring the fun. It’s your choice to kick back with a beverage or to participate in the action by trimming the sails and taking a turn at the wheel.  Bring your own food, beverages and towels, and of course your own clothes and personal use items, but other than that the boat is well stocked.

“Pure Mish…again” is a Catalina 387 sloop rigged sailboat with two private staterooms, a large head with shower, a full galley, hot and cold pressure water, a large salon area and a large, comfortable cockpit.  All safety equipment is provided. There is more information about the boat, along with photos on “The Boat” page at this link

The Boat, Pure Mish…again, is kept at Sommerset Pointe Yacht Club (SPYC) on the south shore of Lake Charlevoix, just a mile or so outside Boyne City. This marina is an excellent facility with an onsite bath house and sandy beach as well as a very nice restaurant overlooking the lake and the boat slips. More information about SPYC can be found at this link, http://www.sommersetpointeyachtclub.com/

Your trip is truly customized. Pure Mish Sailing Charter Adventures can range from an afternoon or evening sail to a several-day long excursion to distant ports. Recent sailings have included sunset cruises for a wedding proposal and an anniversary surprise, and extended trips for a family of 5 and for a honeymoon. For overnight trips, I will help arrange hotel stays near the marina at your destination. Oh, in case you are wondering about the wedding proposals, they have all said yes. It’s very rewarding for me to get to be part of these important times in people’s lives.

I also participate with the Charlevoix Visitors Bureau (visitcharlevoix.com) and the Petoskey Area Visitors Bureau (petoskeyarea.com). Please check them out for more area fun.

Do you do day trips w/out overnight? Do you allow kids ( 5&7 years)? They are seasoned motor boaters, but have never been sailing. I would like to but my husband a day trip as an anniversary gift.

Hi Betsy, Yes I do day trips, which generally run from around noon to 5 pm, but I am flexible with that. Kids are fine too. Safety is my first concern in all areas of boating, so we may require them to wear life jackets unless they are seated in the cockpit. We can talk about that as the trip approaches. There is pricing on the “book a trip” page. What date did you have in mind?

    Hi:

How many people can you accommodate? We have 2 families vacationing together in August (2014) – 4 adults + 6 kids and are looking to do a day charter. Many thanks.

      Hi Mike,
My legal limit is 6 guests at a time. I have done multiple families before and we did two shifts, with those that wanted a more relaxing sail going for the first couple hours. Then I brought the boat back to the dock, switched passengers and went back out again, by which time the wind had picked up and the afternoon group was treated to an exhilarating sail. Do you think something like that would work for your group?

What a great concept. We might take you up on this adventure!

  4. Amy Nelson says:

    Hi Dan,
    Are you still doing charters?

    • dan.mishler@gmail.com says:

      Hi Amy,
I’m so sorry I just saw this. I get swamped with junk mail in the comments section of my website, and your message got buried.
I know this is very late in the summer, but yes, I am still doing charters.
If you wouldn’t mind, please use my email dan.mishler@gmail.com
      Thanks,
      Captain Dan

    Hello,
We are looking to take a sunset cruise on either July 31, August 1 or 2. What is your bad weather policy? There will be 4 adults coming.
    Thanks, Jeanie and Wayne
